Haciendo Puentes al Andar: In Conversation with Paola Ramos on Immigration, Politics and Mobilizing the Latinx Community

mujeres (paola ramos)

Mujeres was proud to host our first annual “Haciendo puentes al andar…” event and have Paola Ramos (BC’09) speak on her experiences as a queer Latinx and activist in conversation with Latinx community members and allies. The creation of the “Haciendo puentes al andar” series stems from the need to recognize community and solidarity within this PWI, resist the structures that attempt to silence us while undergrad and seeing how this continues after one’s time at Barnard, Columbia University through the cultivation of a Latinx alumni network with Mujeres.

Our first “Haciendo puentes al andar” event took place on Wednesday, December 5th in the Ella Weed Room on Barnard’s campus that was free and open to the public. Audience members were more than welcomed to ask questions for Paola Ramos. The conversation was moderated by two fellow Mujeres E-board members, Maleni Palacios (BC’20) and Fatima Burgos (BC’21). Alondra Lucero (BC’19) was responsible for taking the pictures during the event while Jessica Cruz (BC’20) delivered the opening and closing remarks.
